Somerset Road Club

Taunton’s Home of Cycling

Welcome to Somerset Road Club — a relaxed, welcoming group of riders from Taunton and the surrounding area.

Most of our members ride for pleasure, but we also welcome those who enjoy the challenge of racing – from time trials to road racing and cyclocross. Each Autumn the club promotes an ‘Open’ Hill Climb on the Quantock Hills.

Club Rides

We currently run a fortnightly Sunday ride, which aims to be enjoyable and inclusive. To see what’s coming up, check out our Club Rides page, our Facebook Group and FAQ section.

Joining Our Club

Thinking of joining us? You’re very welcome to come along for a couple of rides on a “come and try it” basis. It’s a great way to meet the group and get a feel for our friendly, social approach to cycling. More details are available in our FAQ section or email our Membership Secretary. Membership can also be taken out or renewed online.

Social Media

Our Facebook Group is the best place to find updates, ad-hoc rides, photos and friendly chat from members.

Our Sponsor

We’re proud to be supported by The Bicycle Chain, with stores in Taunton, Bridgwater and Weston-super-Mare. Please support our sponsor and help keep these valued local bike shops thriving.

Club History

We have a rich history of racing and proud of past achievements. Dating back to around 1930, members have included an Olympian, prolific road racers and time trialists and a local professional rider.

FAQ

Yes, you can join us on one or two club rides on a come and try it basis.  If you enjoy these rides and would like to continue riding with us, we ask that you join the club.  We have rides of varying distance and pace, please contact the Membership Secretary  before joining us so we can ensure you join a suitable ride and that we know to expect you.

Club membership is only open to adults, as currently we don’t meet British Cycling’s safeguarding requirements for a vetted and trained Club Welfare Officer.

We have rides leaving Taunton on most Saturdays and alternate Sundays (see the Club Rides section for more details). Up-to-date information on rides are posted on our Facebook Group.
